Child Data & Safety

Moonlit Tales takes the safety and privacy of children seriously. This page explains exactly how we handle the limited information parents provide about their children.

1. Who uses this service

Moonlit Tales is designed exclusively for parents and guardians. Children do not have accounts, do not log in, and do not interact with the platform. The service is used by adults on behalf of their children.

2. What child information we collect

When you create a child profile you provide:

• Your child's first name — used to personalise stories ("Olivia looked up at the stars...")
• An approximate age range — used to adjust story length and vocabulary
• Story interests and themes — chosen by you, used to shape the story's content

That's it. We do not collect your child's surname, date of birth, school, location, photograph, or any other identifying information.

3. How child data is used

Child profile data is used only to generate personalised bedtime stories. The child's first name and age range are sent to Anthropic (our AI provider) as part of a story generation prompt. Anthropic processes this under a data processing agreement and does not use it to train their models.

4. Who sees child data

• Our servers (to store and retrieve your profiles)
• Anthropic (first name + age range only, for story generation)
• No one else — we do not share child data with advertisers, data brokers, or any other third party

5. Parental control

You have full control over your children's profiles at all times:

• Edit any profile from Dashboard → Children
• Delete any profile — this removes all associated story history
• Request full account deletion by emailing us at support@moonlittales.co

6. Data retention

Child profile data is retained while your account is active. When you delete a profile or close your account, all associated data is permanently deleted within 30 days.

7. Our legal basis

We process child data on the basis of contract performance (providing the personalised service you signed up for) and legitimate interests (ensuring the stories are age-appropriate and relevant). As the parent or guardian, you provide informed consent on behalf of your child when you create their profile.
